The Essential Cue Collection
Dominic Dale Collection Sale 2005
Cue Gallery
On offer in 2005 from the collection of Dominic Dale was a range of collectable cues of historical significance.
The items ranged from the era of Roberts and included cues from the famous manufacturers such as Burroughres & Watts and Riley as well as cues that commemorated the break making achievements of the best specialist Billiard players ever to grace the green baise.
Below is a key to the terms used in the desriptions and a gallery of images to enjoy.
- H/S hand-spliced
- M/S Machine spliced
- All cues are single piece unless otherwise stated
Please note that all the cues were SOLD in auction in 2005.

Orme cue – One long piece of ash, the famous Orme name is stamped into the butt, these cues are very early and would suit a collector specialising in the provimcial makers as they are quite an inexpensive orme cue to strat with and have a degree of historical interest attached to them. 58″

John Roberts Disc Badge cue – Another very rare cue and a good example, please note the small crack in the original ivory badge. Once again an extremely rare item and one to be treasured, made by Burroughes & Watts. 57½”
Burroughes & Watts John Roberts Junior cue – This is the slighty less common of the standard John Roberts Champion cues with the famous crossed cues badge as it is the one featuring the name of john Roberts Junior, an ideal companion piece for the cue mentioned above or better still the John Roberts version with the similar crossed cues plate. This cue too was made by the excellent cue makers Burroughes & Watts. 57″
Burroughes & Watts Willie Smith Champion cue – This cue although a little short is in very nice condition, another cue from Burroughes and Watts made famous by Tony Knowles as this is his preferred cue to use. 56¾

John Bennett cue H/S – This cue is double hand-spliced and quite rare, I have never seen this cue badged as a John Bennett. It was undoubtedly made by Peradon for the Bennett company of London and would have cost a great deal of money when new due to the quality of contruction and the materials used. 57¼”. 9.5mm tip
Burroughes & Watts Double Badged Club cue H/S – This cue is quite worn due to use but as with many useable cues the condition suffers a little, however the cue is a Burroughes & Watts and is all there, it would suit a person seeking a Burroughes cue to use or a collector going for the full Burroughres range. 58½”
E J Riley Oval Badged cue – These are amongst the rarer of the Riley cues and rarely come up for sale when compared to the more common tombstone shaped badged cues from the Accrington based company. This cue is a little gem for the Riley collector
Murton cue H/S – This cue is doouble and alternately spliced and is very strong. Although not too heavy to use from a playing point of view. Again Murton of Newcastle cues are far less common in hand-spliced versions and so this cue has merit as a collectors piece as well. No ferrule. 57¼”
