My first John Parris cue was a Champion cue. I bought it from Dave Johnstone-Allen of Cheddar Classics at The Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.
I had heard good things about Parris cues for a number of years, but what made up my mind was the fact that Steve Davis had approached John to work on his famous cue. My simple logic was, if it is good enough for the world number one, it’s probably, too good for me. Which ironically, was good enough for me at the time.
So i looked through Dave’s cues at his stall during the World Championships. I never hit a ball with the cue but it felt about perfect for me. I used this cue for a few years and really liked it. The shaft was quite dark and it didn’t have a mini butt socket.
Later I bought a Classic, which I sold. I have also had an Ambassador, an Elite, a Challenge, A Supreme and a Traditional and finally an Ultimate.
The Ultimate is number 1066. A very significant number as it is the data of the battle of Hastings.
About five years ago, a friend drcided to buy a cue from Parris in Forest Gate, London. After a long time the cue was finally ready. So, four of us went down to pick it up. Not because it was super heavy; for the trip.
We got there before opening time and found a local cafe for a cup of tea and perhaps a bacon butty for nutritional purposes. Noting bubble on the menu, I had to ask what it was as we were far from home and it made me smile. It was served with a variety of options so certainly seemed versatile. It turned out to be bubble and squeak. The lady laughed as she explained. To us she sounded straight out of Eastenders. Pleasant and happy go-lucky. I can only guess at how we sounded to her. After our thank you’s we headed around the corner to collect the cue.
My first impression was how small the showtoom was, how little and limited the snooker ruble was, it was against a wall. But this was still John Parris cues.
We chatted to the assistant and had a good look at the stock on display. Took a few photos then drove back up north. Our mood was positive all day.
My friend liked his cue and couldn’t wait to try it. I had bought an Ambassador cue and we found out what bubble was.
Who could ask for more?
